Architects Build for Success

As an architect, you'll design the look, functionality, safety, and necessity of buildings and structures. Helpful skills for you may include designing, engineering, managing, supervising, and communicating with clients and builders.

Whether it for individuals or organizations, your job as an architect will be to conceptualize the requirements of a building or structure and then develop the ideas into building plans. Here's what you should expect on the job:

  • Discussing the objectives, requirements, and budget of a project with a client.
  • Conducting feasibility and environmental impact studies.
  • Developing final construction plans on CAD systems detailing a building's appearance and drawings specifying air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical, communication, and plumbing systems.
  • Preparing a report and final drawings for a client's review.
  • Assisting clients in obtaining construction bids, selecting contractors, and negotiating construction contracts.

Your job will not be complete until all construction is finished, required tests are conducted, and construction costs are paid. You may even provide post-construction services, such as energy efficiency management. The job will only be considered successful if you communicated and constructed your vision persuasively and successfully.
