Blogging Changes the Face of Journalism

The face of Journalism is much different than it was in previous generations. Blogs and other new media are grabbing readers' attention more than ever before.

Many of us who try to keep up with the news no longer wait for a newspaper delivery. We can get emails from major news sources, watch news reports stream from our computer screens, and subscribe to daily news blogs that give us different news perspectives. The information age is upon us and journalism as we know it is changing.

Journalism Schools Starting to Embrace New Media

Many journalism schools are embracing these changes. Michigan State University recently created a news website that incorporates the latest in new media, including real time news blogs, and interactive comment boards. Those at the MSU journalism school want to make sure that earning a college degree in journalism prepares students for the next generation of news reporting.

Earn an Online Degree in Journalism

If you want to earn your college degree in jouralism, but don't have enough time to attend a traditional school, you may want to look into earning an online degree. There are a number of schools that offer online journalism degrees. These programs are generally geared towards working professionals looking to change careers. If your job or family life prohibits you from attending regular college classes, an online degree program might be a good fit.

Before enrolling in any journalism school, make sure they offer programs in new media. Without some knowledge and experience working with new media and the internet, you won't be prepared for a career in today's journalism field.
