Making Good Web Sites by Design
During the last two weeks I have spent time and energy trying to find a good web site designer. It has been quite difficult, mostly because many of the advertised web builders are technical people, with good development skills, but are not designers.
I have found myself trying to explain what I want, and then being asked to design it for myself, or to pick a "house style" from other web sites; not at all what I am looking for.
Web site design is a specialist skill, and not only do you have to learn the mechanics of building a web site, you also have to be able to design web sites with skill and flair - and most importantly, some idea of good design principles optimized for use on the web.
Take a Web Design Course
You can learn these web design principles by studying a suitable web design course. You can take a qualification - maybe an Associate's or Bachelor's degree - or you can study for a certificate or diploma at a design school. If you are working and do not want to take time out to study, you should consider an online course. Web design is particularly suited to online study, as much of your work involves using a PC, and you can communicate with your lecturers through email and messaging. In the case of a web design course, studying online is a real case of practicing what you preach.
Gaining skills as a web site designer will mean that you can improve your work greatly, and your clients will benefit from the increased impact their web site will have. It's all Good for your web sites, and great for business.
