Provide Baby Care as a Massage Therapist

New parents want their infants to feel safe and comfortable when they enter the world. Unfortunately, when a baby has colic, a condition caused by an immature digestive system, his pain is audible and persistent. While no cure exists, many mothers and massage therapists have found that gentle, soothing massage therapy on the child's abdomen can provide relief for suffering babies.

Holistic Massage Helps Soothe

Colic affects about 20 percent of infants; babies suffering from it will often cry up to three hours a day, sometimes several days a week. While this condition is highly distressing for the infant and her parents, evidence shows that holistic massage greatly reduces the painful symptoms.

Becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist

Massage therapy school immerses you in the various techniques of holistic massage. If pre-natal and post-natal massage is interesting to you, find a massage therapy school that provides instruction for this particular client base. Many schools provide basic coursework in widely practiced western and eastern massage:
  • Swedish massage
  • Deep Tissue
  • Shiatsu
  • Therapeutic massage

Online Degrees are an Option

Most states require at least 500 hours of training, as well as certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, to become a licensed massage therapist. If your schedule doesn't permit in-class training, many massage schools offer online degree options. A distance learning degree provides the same in-depth training and is achieved at your own pace.

Whether you opt for traditional massage therapy school or a distance learning degree, your training will allow you to provide holistic healing and peace to clients of every age.
