Now is the Time to Pursue an Online Degree in Homeland Security


Bush�s state of the union speech celebrated the creation of the government department of homeland security, thanking homeland security professionals for their increased roles. With no sign of a let-up in the second term, the number of homeland security certifications and online degrees in homeland security is sure to increase to meet the growing range of homeland security jobs.

Homeland Security is High on the Agenda

In 2003, the federal government, states, cities and the private sector spent more than $100 billion on homeland security initiatives. In his speech, President Bush indicated that this will increase, stating that the Bush administration�s �third responsibility to future generations is to leave them an America that is safe from danger, and protected by peace.�

Homeland Security Certification or an Online Degree?

Not surprisingly, there is a growing range of online programs in homeland security, ranging from homeland security certification through an online degree, designed to allow you to build on your existing homeland security experience. Here are some examples:
  • Homeland security certification
  • Homeland security and public safety diploma
  • Bachelor, master and doctor of science in public administration (including a concentration in public safety and homeland security)

Homeland Security Jobs

In addition to the homeland security jobs created by the development of the Department of Homeland Security, President Bush celebrated the fact that a half-million first responders have been trained since September 11th.
