Computer Networking Spans the World

Computer networking is the linking together of two or more computers in order to be able to communicate, to share data, and in some cases, to share programs.

Most networks are somewhat more complex than a simple machine to machine linkage, and Local Area Networks (LANs) use a server or a central hub, which houses the networking operating system and data for the whole system. Usually, each PC can operate as an independent unit for some of the applications they are needed for, but use the server for shared systems and shared data.

Linux Networking Makes Connections

Computer networks can span real geographical distances, across countries and continents. If a network is geographically diverse, it is known as a Wide Area Network, and of course the largest example of a WAN is the Internet.

Linux is an increasingly popular operating system used with WANs; a Linux network is able to deal with different kinds of hardware, to link different operating systems, and to deal with different kinds of connections. A Linux network is also easily adapted to the specific needs of different organizations.

Train For Network Programming

Careers in computer networking can include systems administration; that is looking after the day to day running of a network and it's users, and network engineers, who install and maintain the hardware for manufacturers and users. You may want to become a network programmer; network programmers are usually employed by WAN installations who have complex operations involving distributed databases, permanent communications and other advanced applications. You could be involved in new technology development programs, helping to advance the use and operation of networks for commercial users.

If you are interested in computer networking, you need to start thinking about how you can train to the level you want to work with computer networks. Many people enter this career by studying computer networking programs, leading to certification, degrees or other qualifications. Online programs are available to enable you to work and study at the same time.

Computer networking is developing all the time, and careers are developing alongside the technological change. Take advantage of this fascinating area of computing technology.
