The Simpsons are deeply interwoven in the fabric of pop culture, and Matt Groening continues to guide his cartoon into its 17th season of animation success. The next test for the cartoon animation crew will be to see how the show translates into the Arab world, its newest market.

Cartoon Animation and Other Jobs

The son of a cartoonist, Matt Groening has always had a passion for drawings and cartoons. His animation career started after various jobs in Los Angeles, including one as a chauffeur. His big break came when James L. Brooks (later to become an executive producer of The Simpsons) asked Groening to create several animation skits for The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987. From those cartoon animation skits, Homer and the gang were formed.

More recently, Groening's cartoon animation show will be finding its way onto the tube in Arabic countries. Many people doubt the show's ability to translate culturally, and a number of changes have already been made to the cartoon to make it more acceptable to the Koran. Homer will now be named Omar and will drink soda instead of beer. Donuts will be Arab pastries, and all animation with pork products will be removed.

Online Animation Degree: Be the Top Candidate for Animation Jobs

If you're like Groening and have been doodling for years, an online degree gives you a chance to learn important skills to help you get an animation job. In an online animation degree program, you can learn about the basic principles of 2-D and 3-D animation, as well as how to create characters and convey their emotions. An online degree gives you the flexibility to do your coursework on your own schedule, which can be helpful if you are very busy.

Perhaps, one day, you will be a master of cartoon animation and will have your characters seen throughout the world.
